Stuff that's good to know

Storage instructions

It’s ideal to store your mushroom liquid culture in the fridge. It can be stored in the fridge for 2-3 months without losing its vigour. NOTE! There is one exception to this - Pink Oyster liquid culture (Pleurotus djamor) cannot be stored below 10°C or it will surely perish (sad!).

Shipping

Mycelium is heat sensitive.

If you’re concerned with the possible temperatures of freight for your location, please contact us to arrange the best shipping method to ensure your liquid culture arrives viable and in good condition. For this reason we recommend choosing Express Shipping for all mushroom liquid culture orders.

What is the difference between mushroom liquid culture and mushroom grain spawn?

Mushroom liquid cultures and mushrooms grain spawn are both used for the same reason, to transfer mycelium culture from one material to another. The difference between liquid cultures and grain spawn is that you should not transfer liquid culture straight to a bulk substrate such as sawdust.

Liquid cultures can be used to make your own mushroom grain spawn. By using liquid cultures you can easily inoculate grain to make spawn with less exposure of the sterilised grain to the open air.

This is done by injected the liquid culture into a sterilised grain bag or jar through a self-healing injection port.
